The Fort of Bard hosts the 60th edition of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, the prestigious award dedicated to nature photography promoted by the Natural History Museum in London.
The emotional power of photography involves and excites by telling stories and species from all over the world and encouraging a future in defense of the Planet.
The exhibition displays 100 shots selected from 59,228 applications from 117 countries.
The title of Nature Photographer of the Year was awarded to Canadian Shane Gross for The Swarm of Life, an evocative image that captures an underwater world of toad tadpoles.
Italy is represented by Fortunato Gatto, winner of the Plants and Mushrooms category with Old Man of the Glen and mentioned for High tide indicator and A carpet of woods, and by Filippo Carugati, who received an honorable mention in the Underwater category with Green, thin and rare to see.
For the 60th anniversary, the Impact Award was introduced, dedicated to stories of hope in conservation. The adult award went to Australian Jannico Kelk for Hope for the Ninu, which captures a greater bilby in a protected reserve. The youth award was won by Poland’s Liwia Pawłowska for Recording by Hand, which shows a whitethroat relaxed during ringing, an essential technique for monitoring the species.
