Record Monte Rosa
The Monte Rosa group is the mountain range with the highest average height in the Alps. Its highest peak, the Punta Dufour (4,634 metres) is the second highest peak in the entire Alpine range.
The conquest of the summits of the Monte Rosa
Thirty peaks with a height of more than 4,000 meters rise from the massif. The main ones, from the Teodulo Pass going eastwards, are: the Breithorn group, which culminates in the 4,165 meters of the western Breithorn, the twins Pollux (m 4.092) and Castor (m 4.228), the Lyskamm (m 4.527), famous snowy ridge, the highest of the Monte Rosa in the Aosta Valley's territory, the Lys Pass (4.153 m), spectacular mountain pass, the Punta Gnifetti (4.554 m), on which lies the Capanna Regina Margherita, the highest mountain hut in Europe, the Zumstein (4.563 m), the Dufour (4.634 m) and the Nordend (4.612 m).
From Breuil-Cervinia, in the Valtournenche, you can climb the summit of the Breithorn, a classic approach to mountaineering.
From Saint-Jacques, in the Val d'Ayas, you can climb the Pollux, while from Gressoney-La-Trinité, you can reach the Punta Gnifetti and the Castor.
Rely on the mountain guides to better live these exciting experiences.
The tourist areas of Monte Rosa
Towards the wide massif rise the Ayas valley and the Gressoney valley (or Lys valley), which lead to the discovery of the Walser culture, villages with characteristic architecture and an important ski area that links three alpine valleys.
The valley of Ayas begins in Verrès and, after passing through the municipalities of Challand-Saint-Victor, Challand-Saint-Anselme and Brusson, arrives in Ayas, in whose territory are the famous tourist resorts of Champoluc and Antagnod.
Going up the valley of Gressoney, from Pont-Saint-Martin, we meet Perloz, Fontainemore, Lillianes, Issime, Gaby, Gressoney-Saint-Jean, with the fairy-tale Castel Savoia, and Gressoney-La-Trinité.
