The famous “infernal” wine and new vineyards of interest
The Co-Enfer is the cooperative that manages all the wine-making activity of Enfer d’Arvier, the full-bodied wine made from quality grapes harvested on the orographic left of the town of Arvier. Here the structure of the valley, known as “hell” because it is always exposed to the sun, forms a natural amphitheatre that allows the vine to develop in optimum conditions. Vallée d’Aoste Enfer DOC is a wine produced from 85% Petit Rouge grapes and the remainder from other red grape varieties authorised by the regulations, such as Pinot Noir, Vien de Nus, Neyret and Mayolet; this results in a well structured wine that is the perfect accompaniment for meat. Its limited production (around 40 thousand bottles annually) is today joined by the DOC “Pinot gris – Soleil couchant” and “Mayolet – vin du Seigneur” wines, which are produced from the cultivation of the new vineyards planted in the nearby location of Avise. The produce of the Co-Enfer can be bought directly from its headquarters, open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8.00 to 12.00 and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14.00 to 18.00, or in wine shops and at small and large retail outlets.
