G.B. Ferraro
Mountain refuges - Champoluc/Ayas/AntagnodThe Ferraro Refuge was inaugurated on 26 June 1932 and, since then, has welcomed generations of walkers and lovers of Monte Rosa and Val d'Ayas. In the early 2000s, it underwent careful and respectful renovation, designed to preserve its original spirit while making it more welcoming for modern hikers. The renovation enhanced the historic stone and wood structure, improving the interior spaces and services without detracting from the authentic atmosphere that has always characterised this corner of the valley.
The refuge was built in the Walser architectural style, as evidenced by the inscriptions on the lintel at the entrance: a precious detail that tells the ancient history of the place and its deep connection with Alpine culture.
Today, the Ferraro Refuge continues to be a reference point for those travelling along the Alta Via n. 1 or venturing along the paths at the foot of Monte Rosa. It is a place where Alpine tradition meets contemporary hospitality, and where every visit leaves a memory that adds to almost a century of history.
The facility is located in Resy, an ancient Walser village founded in 1200, which still retains the charm of its traditional architecture and centuries-old history. At an altitude of 2,066 metres, the G.B. Ferraro Refuge offers 25 beds in 7 rooms, guaranteeing a simple but attentive welcome.
Thanks to its strategic location, the refuge is the ideal place to stop at the end of a hike or for a short break during more demanding outdoor activities. A valuable base for those seeking nature, tranquillity and an authentic alpine experience.
Winter access:
On foot/with snowshoes: from the Saint-Jacques car park (1,689 m), follow trail no. 1 (Alta Via) towards Resy. Climb through the woods to reach the small Walser village where the Ferraro Refuge is located in about 1 hour. Except on days with heavy snowfall, when snowshoes are recommended, crampons are normally recommended as the trail is very well-trodden, steep, and therefore often icy. Elevation gain: approximately 350 m.
Ski mountaineering: starting from the Frachey ski lift parking lot, take the funicular to Ciarcerio. From the funicular arrival point, the Monterosa Ski mountaineering trail leads to the Resy junction in about 15-20 minutes. Elevation gain: approximately 100 m.
Vieux Crest
Mountain refuges - Champoluc/Ayas/AntagnodThe refuge offers a very intimate and characteristic environment, with a delicious typical menu.

It is a very peaceful place; the Vieux Crest refuge can also be found there, reachable via the small shady road amongst the rascard.
Walter Bonatti
Mountain refuges - CourmayeurThe Walter Bonatti refuge, which opened on 1st August 1998, is a typical construction in wood and stone. It faces a stirring view which embraces the entire mountain range: from Col Ferret to Col de la Seigne.

The refuge can offer you different types of room: small rooms with two beds, six-bedded rooms and spacious dormitories. The rooms, which have beautiful views, take the name of the summit which they look out onto.
The kitchen offers traditional dishes and typical Valle d'Aosta wines. Weather permitting, the specialities can also be enjoyed in the open on the wooden tables which are on the meadowland in front of the refuge.
