The experience of sport fishing in mountain lakes and streams

From the Dora Baltea river, flowing through the main valley, to the crystal-clear streams of the side valleys, and up to the alpine lakes high in the mountains, Aosta Valley offers sport fishing enthusiasts an exceptionally diverse and fascinating natural setting.

The  “Regional consortium for the protection, increase and practice of fishing” publishes the annual fishing calendar, providing all the essential information for anglers: required permits and where to obtain them, authorised fishing periods and days, a list of tourist and winter fishing reserves, as well as permitted equipment, techniques and bait.

A dedicated map shows all lakes and streams across the region where fishing is allowed, together with the applicable fishing regulations. In addition to free waters, the map also includes fishing reserves managed directly by the Consortium and privately operated reserves.

Some areas operate under a no-kill regime, where all catches must be released. These zones are subject to specific rules, such as the use of single barbless hooks, wetting hands before handling the fish to release it, and minimising contact as much as possible.
