Description of the route

The snow-covered route is groomed across the entire width of the farm road, therefore clearly visible, and can also be followed without snowshoes. In case of snowfall it is advisable to check whether the route has been groomed and whether it is possible to walk on it with après-ski footwear.

From the arrival of the Chamois cable car, continue on the small road that passes under the Town Hall, cross the entire village, cross the bridge and continue to the right, on the flat walk that leads to the municipality of La Magdeleine for about 1 and a half km; at this point you will find a crossroads that allows you to reach Col Pilaz, where it is possible to rest on the "Big Bench", a large red bench.
From Col Pilaz continue to the left climbing slowly into the woods.
From the pass continue on the beaten track: you will pass near the Charrey lake, which may not be visible as it is covered by snow, immediately afterwards on the left you will find a mountain pasture. From here we continue to the Champlong mountain pastures and its lakes. From here the view is spectacular, the Matterhorn is clearly visible. The walk continues in a spacious clearing and then reaches a stretch of dense forest up to the Les Foressus mountain pasture.
From here the descent begins to the town of Chamois passing through Le Moulin of Crépin with two return options:

  • pass Le Moulin of Crépin and continue along the stream until you reach the bridge that takes you back to Chamois
  • once you reach Le Moulin of Crépin, cross the little bridge and continue to the hamlet of Crépin, then go down to Chamois village centre.

The track is also suitable for those who want to do ski mountaineering.

N.B. The route can also be followed starting from La Magdeleine:

At the first hairpin bend beyond the church of La Magdeleine, in the hamlet of Vieu, turn left, follow the signs for Chamois and continue until the road ends.
The car parks adjacent to the starting point of the path are subject to a fee: three blue columns are available for issuing tickets (coin or easypark app only): €6.00 from 8.00am  to 5.30pm.
Here the route is on a snowy road for about 20/30 minutes of quiet walking. At a certain point, near a curve, you continue slightly uphill on path no. 1A for about 20 minutes (section not groomed). If you wish, you can still continue on the road until the crossroads that indicate the descent towards Col Pilaz.
