Tradition and creativity of Aosta Valley craftsmen also can be appreciated in leather items
Work with leather probably started in Valle d'Aosta in the times of the Romans. Very few ancient items have survived: we can still find knapsacks, skin bags, flasks and clogs.
Many leather craftsmen still work in the Aosta Valley. Mainly, they produce clothing accessories (rucksacks, bags, wallets, shoes, belts) and items of clothing. Some craftsmen, though, still produce collars for livestock, harnesses for horses, "socques" (clogs with a wooden sole and leather upper) as well as other objects linked to tradition and folklore in the Aosta Valley.
