“Glacier bubbly” and “ice wine” at the foot of Mont Blanc

La Cave du Vin Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle is the highest winery in Europe, with its original, ungrafted vines climbing at altitudes of up to 1200 metres, in a natural setting in which the imposing Mont Blanc “watches over” the vineyards below. This is the home of “glacier bubbly”, in other words Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle brut and extra brut, a traditional method sparkling wine with a Controlled Denomination of Origin (DOC). Side by side with this quality wine we find an equally special product: Chaudelune, made in December from grapes that have weathered the first ice and snow of the winter. This rare and highly prized "vin de glace" or ice wine acquires a specific sweet and aromatic concentration that makes it unique in its class. The Vallée d'Aoste Blanc de Morgex e La Salle DOC, in its traditional version, and other prizedwhite wines complete the range, which represents an annual production of 150 thousand bottles, all from the cultivation of 20 hectares of mountain slopes. Although it is possible to buy wines from this area in wine shops as well as small and large retail outlets, the Cave du Vin Blanc has a tasting room with its own sales point and a quality restaurant on the upper floors. A free tour of the highest winery and vineyards in Europe is available on advance booking: an opportunity not to be missed.
