Where to sleep: Valsavarenche

The farm house is located in Bien at 1700m, along the Regional Road that runs through the municipality of Valsavarenche in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
New construction in stone and plaster the agritourism offers eight comfortable and nicely decorated rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a restaurant where you can try specialities typical of Aosta Valley and homecooked food.
From the farm house you can go hiking in summer and ski touring in winter as well as doing cross-country along the trackl that pass very close to the farm house.

At the end of the Valsavarenche road, the Pont Breuil camping ground is located within a spectacular high mountain setting. <br>With full facilities and in a peaceful setting, it is a good starting point for reaching all retreats of the Valsavarenche and many tracks in the Gran Paradiso range.

The small Grivola Hotel offers its customers courtesy and a friendly environment. <br>The inviting rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

Le Mélèze, dating back to the late 1600s and early 1800s, is a high mountain house, located at 1700 m in the centre of the village of Bien and the wild Valsavarenche.
It serves as a gîte d'étape, providing shelter for hikers on the Alta Via or mountaineers preparing to climb the Gran Paradiso.
Le Mélèze is an old renovated house whose original structure has been preserved. The living room has been obtained from the casera on the ground floor.  This is where you have breakfast and eat. The Gîte has three rooms: the Cheesemaker's (with a double bed, named after the cheese-making tools on display there), the Skier's (with a double bed that can also be separated and a washbasin, named after the skis and sled that you find there) and the Farmer's room, obtained from the old attic, which has two separate beds. The kitchen is available on request and shared with other guests. You can also eat at the kitchen table. Two shared full bathrooms, one upstairs and one on the ground floor, are available to guests.

Situated at the foot of the north-west face of Gran Paradiso, in the heart of the National Park, the Federico Chabod Mountain Hut 2710 m  is regarded as the starting point for the standard route up Gran Paradiso and for the north-west face, and enjoys spectacular views across the entire massif.

A stopover on the Tor des Glaciers route, the refuge is comfortable and well-equipped. There is a small climbing wall nearby.

The refuge was awarded UNI EN ISO 14001 certification in October 2001.

 

How to get there in summer

On foot:
Leave your car in the car park at Loc. Pravieux, cross the Savara stream and take route no. 5. The path alternates between larch forests, wide meadows covered in flowers and wilder areas as you approach the final elevation.

Duration: approx. 3 hours

How to get there in spring

Ski mountaineering / snowshoeing: follow the summer route of trail no. 5. Once you reach Alpe Lavassey, the route turns right and continues uphill to the refuge.
This snowshoe hike is recommended for experienced hikers who are fit and have good experience of walking on snow.
Elevation gain: approx. 880 m
Duration: approx. 3 hours

Always check the avalanche report before setting out. It is compulsory to carry an avalanche rescue kit (ARTVA, shovel and probe).

The Savoia Mountain Hut (2,534 m) stands on the picturesque Nivolet plateau, a short distance from the lake of the same name, within the Gran Paradiso – Valsavarenche National Park. The hut is an ideal starting point for hikes and climbs in the heart of the park.

The building is the result of the renovation of one of King Victor Emmanuel II’s historic hunting lodges, dating back to 1860, and still retains an authentic charm steeped in tradition.

The Savoia Mountain Hut currently comprises three buildings: the main building, which houses the restaurant and guest rooms; a cosy bar; and a more secluded annexe nestled in the tranquillity of nature.

At the Savoia Mountain Hut, you can savour the authentic flavours of the mountains: the self-service kitchen offers wholesome dishes, inspired by the traditions of the Aosta Valley, prepared with simple, high-quality ingredients to provide a warm and authentic culinary experience.

The mountain hut is open only in summer and can also be reached by car via Ceresole Reale in Piedmont.

How to get there

On foot: from the car park at Pont (the highest hamlet in Valsavarenche), take route n. 3 near the restaurant, which climbs up to Croce Roley (2,314 m). From here, the path continues to the left, crossing a wide grassy plateau until it reaches the refuge.

Located just a 15-minute walk from the Pont Valsavarenche car park, along the path leading to the Vittorio Emanuele II Mountain Hut, it is an ideal destination for a rejuvenating break, a stay dedicated to hiking, or a convivial moment in a stunning natural setting.

The accommodation offers a range of options, designed to meet different needs:

How to get there

On foot: from Pont, the highest hamlet in Valsavarenche, cross the Savara stream and take the farm track on the right, route n. 1. The route winds its way through larch forests and wide, green clearings, making it ideal for families with children – even those with pushchairs – and for cycling trips.

The Vittorio Emanuele II Refuge is a starting point for climbing the Gran Paradiso, the Ciarforon and other summits in the mountain range and can be reached in two hours on foot from Pont di Valsavarenche; it is immersed in the tranquility of the Gran Paradiso National Park. It is possible to reach the F. Chabod Refuge in two hours; a stopping point along Alta Via (High Route) n°4 situated in a picturesque position.

The Grivola rooms-to-let are just a few metres away from the Camping-Hôtel Grivola, which they are a part of. <br>Guests can make use of the services provided by the main establishment.
