Rifugio degli Angeli

The Rifugio degli Angeli is situated at an altitude of 2,916 metres on a ridge at the foot of the Morion Glacier, in the Testa del Rutor area, within the municipality of Valgrisenche. The refuge is like an eagle’s nest clinging to the large rocky outcrop overlooking the Beauregard reservoir, offering spectacular views stretching from the Grande Sassière and Gran Paradiso to Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and the Grand Combin.

The refuge stands on the site of the former Clea Scavarda Refuge, which, owned by the Turin Section of the CAI, was built in 1937 and converted into a military shelter. In 1990, it was destroyed by fire. In 2003, renovation work began, resulting in the modern structure.

 The Rifugio degli Angeli is situated on Alta Via No. 2, with links to the Rifugio Deffeyes and the La Thuile Valley, the Bezzi and Chalet de l’Épée huts in Valgrisenche, as well as other French huts.

How to get there 

On foot:

• From the village of Bonne, along the road to Usellières, route no. 16 branches off to the right, winding its way through a forest and the beautiful grassy basin of the Alp Vieille mountain pasture (2,207 m); from here, the steep ascent begins.

• 
  From La Bethaz (1540 m), route n. 18 – a slightly longer route with more elevation gain than the first but less frequented – takes you through woods, pastures and scree slopes until you reach the picturesque Morion lakes. A trail offering magnificent views stretching from the Grand Combin to the Monte Rosa massif

• From Planaval di Arvier, route n. 19: a path that is initially little-used with dense vegetation,  it then joins route n. 18 (see above) 
  Difficulty: E excursion route  – suitable for those in good physical condition
