The Mezzalama refuge is one of the historic refuges in the Val d'Ayas, and is also probably one of the most frequented at that height. Given its height and position, it is without doubt one of the most scenic, being situated on the summit of the Grande Ghiacciaio di Verra moraine, at the foot of the Rocce di Lambronecca.
The breathtaking view of Castore, Polluce, the Felik glacier, the Grande and Piccolo Ghiacciaio di Verra (Large and Small Verra Glaciers), on the moraines, Pian di Verra Inferiore and the entire Val d'Ayas are worth the walk which is not impossible to undertake.
It is also obligatory to pass the Mezzalama to reach the refuge of Guide d'Ayas from Ayas, which is a good hour's walk away with suitable equipment (crossing the end strip of the Piccolo Ghiacciaio di Verra).
