Rendezvous with Rhémy de Noël, the Santa Claus of Courmayeur
Contact
On December 24, the children of Courmayeur await with trepidation Rhémy de Noël, the protagonist of a legend that has its roots in the bond that unites the town to Mont Blanc.
Rhémy de Noël wears red, has a big white beard, brings gifts to children, like Santa Claus, but is equipped like a true mountaineer, with mountain boots, ropes, rucksack and ice axe. He is the protagonist of a special fairy tale, linked to the legend of the giant who lives on top of the Mont Blanc glaciers.
The story goes that Rhémy, worried about the absence of snow, ventured towards the glaciers of Mont Blanc to understand why, on Christmas Eve, the country had not yet been painted. Reaching the summit he found the snow trapped by a Giant, who suffered from loneliness. Rhémy decided to stay with him to keep him company, and the Giant freed the snow, which fell again on Courmayeur.
Since then Rhémy goes down to the valley only on Christmas Eve, to deliver gifts to children who light a lantern to show them the way to Courmayeur. Every year, hundreds of letters to Rhémy arrive in the village, and he meticulously replies to all of them.
In the center of Courmayeur there is a special mailbox where you can post your message. Otherwise you can write to this address:
