The story written by Genet - inspired by a real news story - is that of two maids who simultaneously love and hate their mistress, Madame.

Genet presents the two sisters - Solange and Claire - in their daily lives, alternating between fantasy and reality, between the game of delirium and real delirium in a ritual that is the embodiment of frustration: the action of killing the beloved and envied object is repeated endlessly like a game.

But this game never reaches its climax; the enactment that the two sisters perform is always interrupted by the arrival of the mistress... up to a point of no return.
