February in the Aosta Valley: stunning wintry landscapes and events
In Aosta Valley, winter is a season of celebration.
February 2025 brings not only the magic of wintry nature and fun on the ski slopes but also a packed calendar of events blending tradition with major sports spectacles.
Traditional crafts and Carnivals
If you missed the grand celebration of the millennial Fiera di Sant’Orso crafts fair in Aosta at the end of January, you still have time to visit the Atelier, held on Saturday, February 1st, and Sunday, February 2nd, in Aosta’s central Piazza Chanoux. Here, you can admire masterpieces of local craftsmanship. Don’t forget to explore, in the first weekend of February, the flavours of Aosta Valley at the Gastronomic Pavilion in Piazza Plouves.
For an authentic Carnival experience, immerse yourself in the unique traditions of Coumba-Frèide. The colorful masks, exclusive to the Great Saint Bernard and Valpelline valleys, bring joy to villages. Key events take place in Allein on February 15th and 16th and in Etroubles on February 27th and 28th.
Major sport events and snowy solidarity
In Cogne, the Nordic Ski World Cup is back after six years. From January 31st to February 2nd, the world’s best athletes compete on the stunning trails at the foot of Gran Paradiso. Highlights include the Team Sprint (January 31st), the Sprint in classical technique (February 1st), and the 10 km freestyle (February 2nd), alongside various side events.
The excitement continues in Cogne with the Marciagranparadiso on Sunday, February 9th. Renowned for its breath-taking scenery and technical challenges, the 30 km cross-country ski competition lies entirely within the Gran Paradiso National Park.
From February 21st to 23rd, Cogne also hosts the Winter Triathlon World Championships, including the debut of Para Winter Triathlon competitions. This endurance sport combines running, cycling, and cross-country skiing in one seamless challenge across winter terrain.
Finally, on February 15th, Pila brings together sports and solidarity with the charitable torchlight parade, I Light Pila. Participants can join with skis, snowboards, snowshoes or even on foot. All proceeds support the Susan G. Komen Italia association in their fight against breast cancer. Before the parade, local huts and bars welcome participants with music, hot tea and mulled wine.
