Borghi Bivouac

The bivouac, inaugurated in 1979, is dedicated to Stefano Borghi, a young mountaineer from Monza, who died in the mountains.

Access:
Leave the car at Valnontey, in the municipality of Cogne, then take the dirt road (itinerary no. 22) that runs alongside the Valnontey stream to its end.
From here, continue along path 22. After around 500 m, ignore trail 22C on the left, which heads to Money Bivouac and continue along the same road taking the valley bed on the river bank.
This leads you to a junction: itinerary 22G continues to the right for Leonessa bivouac, whereas route 22F on the left will take you to the Borghi bivouac.
As you go up, ignore routes 22D and 22E on the left. Continue along the trail to the bivouac.

Devis Gérard Bivouac

The bivouac, built in 2013, is dedicated to the memory of Devis Gérard, a young man from Cogne, who died on 25 july 1997 at the age of 17 in a climbing accident in Lillaz.
Access:
From Lillaz follow route no. 13. After reaching the pasture homes of Les Goilles Desot, the path crosses the small bridge and continues on the orographic left inside the wood. When trees become sparser you reach a junction from where you continue easily along trail no. 13 G to Alpe Bardoney. Once in the middle of the valley follow path no. 13 E to the left leading to the bivouac.

Glarey - Muggia Bivouac

The bivouac, inaugurated in 2013, was built by the Muggia family to the memory of Alessandro, who died very young. Alessandro reached the mountains of Cogne with Elmo Glarey, a local mountain guide who died in May 2010 at the age of 53. Elmo’s family contributed to the construction of the bivouac.

Access:
From the hamlet of Gimillan, follow path no. 8 through the Grauson valley leading to the Pas des Invergneux. Once you have crossed the pastures of Grauson Dessous and Erveilleres, at about 2,600 m above sea level, leave the valley floor and path no.8 and turn onto path no. 8G which initially follows the old Erveilleres canal, then climbs diagonally along the southern side of the Tête Dorère, in the direction of the Tessonet glacier, until the glacial plain called the Pian de la Sabbia, where, in a splendid panoramic position, facing the north-eastern wall of the Tersiva, you will find the new bivouac, which only comes into view at the last moment.

The bivouac is inaugurated in 1962 to the memory of Lionello Leonessa who died on the southern face of Castore in 1959. The bivouac is also dedicated to his brother Lucio, who died in 1963 on the eastern ridge of Herbetet.

Access:
Leave the car at Valnontey, in the municipality of Cogne, then take the dirt road (itinerary no. 22) that runs alongside the Valnontey stream to its end.
From here, continue along path 22. After around 500 m, ignore trail 22C on the left, which heads to Money Bivouac and continue along the same road taking the valley bed on the river banks.
This leads you to a junction: route 22G continues on the right for Leonessa Bivouac, while the trails that go off to the left leads to the bivouacs Borghi and Martinotti.
Go up the mule track to reach Herbetet, where you will find a park guard’s lodge.
Continue along the trail to the left, ignoring route 18B on the right, and go into the valley of Herbetet until you come to the Leonessa bivouac.

Luciano Gratton Bivouac

The bivouac is dedicated to the memory of Luciano Gratton, a mountaineer from Cogne who died in 1973.

Access:
From Crétaz, a hamlet on the road to Cogne, cross the Grand’Eyvia River and the Valnontey River and take path no. 25 which goes up to the pastures of Les Ors Dessous et Dessus.
From here, in just a short time you come to a junction, where, ignoring path 25 on the left, take route 25C which leads first to the National Park guard’s lodge, and then to another bifurcation.
Now continue along path 26 on the left until you come to the pasture of Pousset Dessus, before reaching Col Pousset and the Gratton bivouac.

The bivouac was built in 1935 to the memory of Guido Antoldi, a mountaineer from Turin, who died in 1932 in Rocca Castello. Destroyed by an avalanche in 1977, it is replaced in 1979 and dedicated to Laura Malvezzi.

Access:
From Lillaz take path n. 15 near the children playground and head up towards Valeille. Cross the bridge over the torrent close to a large rock.
Continue on the left bank of the valley and pass the bifurcation to Alpe Arolla and carry on until you reach the bottom of the moraine. After the bifurcation the path becomes steeper, poorly marked and with danger of falling rocks.
Follow the traces of the path that heads up the ridge of the moraine on the left side of the Valeille glacier and follow it to the top where the former bivouac once stood.
Carry on further passing one final ramp until you reach the bivouac on the right in a very panoramic position.

The bivouac, inaugurated in 1930 and replaced in 1994, is dedicated to the memory of Alessandro Martinotti, a mountaineer from Biella, who died on Monte Mars in 1927.

Access:
From Valnontey take the dirt road that runs alongside the river and go through the valley touching on the Valmiana lodges until you reach the Erfaulet bridge.
Cross it and carry on along the path on the left bank until you come to a signed fork where you will have to turn left and this will take you again to the same river that you should cross using the bridge.
Head south east until you come to a small valley cordoned off by a rocky rise that should be passed by climbing up fairly unstable rocks.
Head leftwards until you come to a small basin cordoned off on the right by the moraine and on the left by the last rough parts of the ridge that head downwards from the Roccia Viva.
From the bottom of the ridge head along the path trail on the grassy slope that leads to the crest where you will find the bivouac.

The bivouac, installed in 1967, takes its name from Alpe Money and it is dedicated to the memory of 9 mountaineers who died on the summit of Pizzo Palù, in the Bernina massif.

Access:
Leave the car at Valnontey, in the municipality of Cogne, then take the dirt road (itinerary no. 22) that runs alongside the Valnontey stream to its end.
From here continue 500m along path no. 22 until you reach a junction.
Here, take itinerary no. 22C on the left, which winds upwards.
When you reach a bifurcation continue along the left-hand section 22C, which leads to Money bivouac.
Just before you get to the bivouac you will find a section of the trail equipped with ropes and chains.
Very panoramic itinerary.

Nebbia Bivouac

The bivouac is dedicated to Franco Nebbia, a mountaineer from Turin who died in 1957 on the Obergabellhorn (Switzerland). In 2005 it was placed where it actually is, near the Garin lake (Cogne), whereas from 1958 to 2005 it was located near the Luseney lake (Saint Barthélemy). With the construction of the Reboulaz refuge, the bivouac lost its function and was moved to Cogne.

Access:
Leave the car in Epinel, then go to the upper part of the village and take the dirt road that goes up on the left bank of the Arpisson torrent.
After a few hundred metres, path 2 goes off to the right to reach the pastures of Teuvre and then Tsavanis (just after itinerary no. 2 is joined by path 3A on the right from Gimillan. Take this path to reduce the difference in level) and lastly Arpisson.
Behind the houses the path goes up entering the Arpisson Valley. A few hundred metres further on, you will come to a bifurcation, ignore the itinerary on the left to Colle Tsa Sèche and take the right-hand trail that goes to the head of the valley. After some small plains, stony ground and a long diagonal on the left you come to Nebbia bivouac, near the lake Garin and just before the last steep slope up to Garin Pass.
From the bivouac you can enjoy a wonderful panorama on the Gran Paradiso chain and on the Grivola, from the lake you have a closer view of Punta Garin while from the Pass the view opens on the Mont Blanc chain and on the small Arbolle lakes.

The bivouac, inaugurated in 1947, is dedicated to Carlo Pol, a talented mountaineer and the responsible for publications by the ‘Giovane Montagna’ association for more than 10 years. He was one of the best supporters of the ideals of faith and friendship, the cornerstones of the group. Pol was killed in September 1944 in an aerial bombing.

Cogne Cable way

Ski-lift complex:  -  Cogne

The Cogne ski lifts are open both in Summer and in Winter.

In Winter: Cogne-Montzeuc gondola lift, Sylvenoire chairlift, Bois du Sylvenoire - Crou du Montzeuc chairlift, treadmill - baby snowpark.

The alpine ski area offers: bars, restaurants on the slopes, ski storage, organization of competitions with electronic timing and free ski bus service from the village  to the departure point of the cable car  at Christmas, New Year's, Carnival, Easter and every Saturday and Sunday. Artificial snow is present on 90% of the slopes.

 

In Summer: The Pulsé - Montseuc cablecar leaves at 1,598 m. above sea level and reaches 2,081 m. and allow people  to reach beautiful  itineraries within the Gran Paradiso National Park, between the Gran Paradiso and Monte Bianco chains,  such as:

  • Bar Montseuc, 2 minutes on foot, bar with outdoor seating
  • Belvedere 10 minutes on foot with a formidable balcony over the Cogne valley
  • The Montseuc Nature Trail, a nature walk with explanatory panels on flora, fauna and morphology of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
