Where to eat: Gressoney-Saint-Jean

The Alpenzu hut can only be reached on foot in about 1-hour walk from Gressoney-Saint-Jean and is a stop-off point on the Alta Via 1. It is located in the Walser village of the same name, with the massif of Monte Rosa in the background. Guests will find here typical dishes made exclusively from fresh local products.
Reservations for lunch are recommended, while dinner is reserved for half-board guests.

The Refuge Ospizio Sottile’s cuisine joins the alpine culinary tradition, where all dishes are prepared with great care using local products. The cellar is very well-kept and unique, both in terms of wines and beers. It is the first refuge to have a craft beer cellar and exclusively natural wines.

At the Alpenrose restaurant you can enjoy dishes from the Walser and Aosta Valley cuisine, cold cuts and cheese platters or the dish of the day and more specialities, accompanied by a small selection of Aosta Valley wines and local craft beers. With its informal service, the ambience warmed by the mountain wood is the ideal place for a healthy and quick meal in front of the Weissmatten chairlift.

This historic brewery located in the centre of Gressoney-Saint-Jean will satisfy your hamburger craving! Homemade sandwiches and burgers, dishes with low-temperature cooking, high quality meats, vegetarian choices and gluten-free dishes on request. Six draught beer lines, a wide selection in bottles, cocktails, young and attentive staff to customer needs. The clients, in the sunny days, can use the big garden to have a meal in the open air.

This restaurant, situated at the foot of Monte Rosa near the golf court, is surrounded by meadows and it is the ideal place for beautiful walks or for a relaxing day with the tasting of specialities of the local and Italian cuisine. It is open only in the summer season.

The restaurant of the Hotel Flora Alpina, located near the Weissmatten baby snow park, proposes the dishes of the traditional cuisine of the Aosta Valley as well as the most popular ones at national level, looking for simple and authentic flavours and carefully prepared using genuine ingredients.
The large dining room is also suitable for banquets, parties and weddings.

The welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant of the Hotel Gran Baita is based on the pleasantly furnished spaces in Alpine style and the quality of the cuisine. It offers typical dishes of the local cuisine alternating with national specialities. The wine list has a good selection of the most interesting producers in the Aosta Valley and a few from outside the valley. The restaurant also organises lunches or dinners for groups.

Accessibility

As a result of the mapping carried out in 2023 as part of the "Lo sci per tutte le abilità" (Skiing for everyone) project, the following was found:

• The access is the same as the one to the hotel (entrance with a slightly salient wooden kerb).
• The restaurant is situated on the ground floor and it has no significant differences in level. One of the toilets is handicapped accessible and its size conforms to the requirements.
• The size of the entrance door and of the inner openings satisfies the minimum standards.

The restaurant is located on the road 44, not far away from Gressoney-Saint-Jean’s village centre. Simple and natural dishes, where tradition and creativity complement each other perfectly. First-class aperitifs, that suit especially all those who like gin, are served with tasty canapés. The staff is professional and welcoming.
On Saturday evenings there is good live music.

The restaurant Kleine offers a simple, home-style cuisine, which the owner Emma handles with care. The atmosphere in the restaurant is homely, and the wooden furniture gives its guests a warm feeling.

This restaurant is located in an old Walser house and its cuisine offers typical regional and national dishes.
The building hosts also some rooms.

The bar restaurant Lago Gover is situated on the shores of the lake of the same name, with a wonderful view of the Monte Rosa massif and surrounded by flourishing vegetation. The cuisine offers typical Valdostan dishes, from the classic polenta to the trout caught in the small lake, but it is also possible to simply have a snack or a tea break. The restaurant also has some tables outside the bar where guests can have lunch on sunny days.

La Marmotta restaurant, located inside the 'Residenza del Sole' apartment-hotel, serves dishes of the typical cuisine of Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta. The experience of Deborah, chef from Pavia, brings her famous ossobuco with saffron risotto and the typical Pavia ragout (casseoeula) to the Valley. The cheeses and cold meats from the Valley, served on typical platters accompanied by wines from small local wineries, will be the protagonists. At lunch, in addition to the à la carte menu, a fixed price menu is offered for all those who wish to try the restaurant's proposals. At dinner, on the other hand, only the à la carte menu is available.

In addition to the restaurant service, a cafeteria with cold dishes and aperitifs service is also available. On reservation it is also possible to enjoy a good aperitif by the pool.

The restaurant is situated on the characteristic Umberto Square in Gressoney-Saint-Jean and it welcomes its guests in a traditional and prettily panelled dining room, in order to offer them first-class dishes prepared according to traditional as well as innovative recipes.

Inaugurated in December 2014, Casa Capriata is a highly original three-storey structure raised off the ground, a modern reinterpretation of the Walser architecture of the upper Gressoney valley, designed by Turin architect Carlo Mollino. It is set at an altitude of 2,100 metres in the Weissmatten ski area, can be reached on foot, by ski or chairlift.

The Mollino Refuge offers a café-restaurant service for those who wish to spend a day in the open air in a unique and special environment. Suitable for those seeking refreshment after a hike or for those who simply want to enjoy a day of complete relaxation!

The restaurant of the Hotel Gressoney offers traditional specialities from the local and regional cuisine in a refined atmosphere with a superb view of Monte Rosa’s glaciers.

The restaurant Mont Néry is a place of memories and good tastes and it is characterised by different dining rooms: “Gade” (with stone stove), “Wongade” (furnished and decorated with wood and stone) and “Chär” (with vaulted ceiling) for happy moments with friends. There is also a tasting room (“Wistòbò”) with a wide choice of wines. The restaurant’s cuisine offers high-quality dishes from the local tradition: fresh pasta, stewed meat with polenta and homemade cakes.

Elegant restaurant located in the historic centre of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in Umberto I square, furnished in Alpine style. The cuisine offers traditional local and national dishes, prepared with fresh, quality ingredients, from starters to desserts.

Brasserie - crêperie with warm and cold dishes. Delicious draught beer and local wines accompany tasty and pure specialities. Thanks to its informal atmosphere, it is the ideal place for a snack after sport activities or for a dinner with family or friends.

The restaurant pizzeria Lo Stambecco is located in the historic centre of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, just a short walk from the Lake Gover. With rustic furnishings and a fireplace, it offers a typical Valdostan, Piedmontese and national cuisine, together with numerous types of classic or more refined pizzas, topped with local products, and homemade desserts. The atmosphere is cosy and rustic. Besides a wide choice of thin, light and crispy pizzas, guests can taste delicious desserts and home-made cakes.

The farm restaurant Blékéné is located in the Lys Valley in the municipality of Gressoney Saint-Jean, in the beautiful Loo Valley and more precisely in the village of Obre Loo. It is a building from the 18th century that has been skilfully restored using local materials, which offers a typical menu that will satisfy every guest in a warm and cosy dining room built in stone and wood.
The farmhouse can be reached from Gressoney-Saint-Jean following path number 12 from the hamlet of Loomaten or from Niel (hamlet of Gaby) following the Alta Via 1.

At the Café des Guides you will find a warm and cosy atmosphere which is typical of mountain houses. Besides local specialities, guests can savour many other tasty dishes.

The bar-restaurant Jäger serves simple and traditional local dishes, which can also be enjoyed in the outdoor area near the Lake Gover.

The Snack Bar is located in the characteristic historical centre of Gressoney-Saint-Jean in Obre Platz square and offers a simple and tasty home cooking. In addition to the typical cold cuts, cheese and hot dishes such as polenta concia (polenta with Fontina cheese), hamburgers and rösti, customers will find a variety of delicious homemade desserts. In summer, you can also enjoy the beautiful outdoor seating area.
