In the Aosta Valley Italian region, September is when summer gently fades into autumn: the air becomes crisper, the skies clear, and the landscapes glow with warm colours. It’s the perfect time to discover the region with fresh eyes, through events, traditions or by exploring on foot, by bike or motorbike.

High-altitude flavours

There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the region’s gastronomic excellence:

  • In Courmayeur, on 7 September, Lo Matsòn, the market of typical products at the foot of Mont Blanc, celebrates its 25th edition with an exclusive show-cooking event by Michelin-starred chef Carlo Cracco.
  • In Chambave, from 24 to 28 September, the grape harvest is celebrated with the traditional Festa dell’Uva, featuring tastings, folklore, and the renowned local wine.

Music among the peaks

The Musicastelle series of free open-air concerts in nature continues. No stages, no chairs – just music and mountains:

Art, history and culture to explore

From 20 to 28 September, Plaisirs de Culture opens the doors of the Aosta Valley’s rich heritage.
A varied programme of free or discounted activities invites visitors to explore castles, museums, archaeological sites, and collections often closed to the public. There will also be guided tours, family workshops, talks and exhibitions.

Epic challenges and slow journeys

For sports lovers and adventurers, September marks the return of the Tor des Géants, the legendary ultra-trail running race along the region’s High Routes.
From 14 to 20 September 2025, it kicks off in Courmayeur, covering 330 km through the Gran Paradiso National Park and the Mont Avic regional Park.

If you prefer a slower pace, join the "Cultura in cammino" guided hikes along parts of the Cammino Balteo and the Via Francigena:

Eyes to the sky

September also sees the return of the Star Party in Saint-Barthélemy, a must for astronomy lovers. Take the opportunity to book a visit to the Regional Astronomical Observatory or the Planetarium, and marvel at the clearest skies in the Alps.
