Fiolet field

Traditional sports  -  Pré-Saint-Didier

The  Fiolet area is located at Lo Tzeno.
A game similar to rebatta, but in this case the ball to be hit is raised without the aid of a lever instrument. In fact, the ball (“fiolet”) in this case has an ovoid shape, with a flattened part on which it is balanced on a base, once represented by a smooth stream stone (“pira”), today by a special artefact. By skilfully hitting the fiolet, one makes it leap into the air and then hurls it as far as possible (even 150 metres). The matches, as for the rebatta, pit teams of five throwers against each other, but the fiolet also has an individual championship, which is celebrated once a year; it is called the “baton d'or” because the winner gets to keep the artistically carved “masetta” that serves as a trophy, on which the names of all the annual winners are engraved, for one year.
