The Assumption procession and Festival of the alpine guides

In order to celebrate the Assumption of Mary, Gressoney-La-Trinité’s small community gathers on the church square before taking part in the torchlight procession along the village streets. On this occasion many women wear Gressoney’s typical costume. The local mountain guides, who celebrate their annual feast on this same day, have the honour of carrying the Saint’s statue. At the end of the procession the priest issues the Assumption’s blessing.
