Fires of San Giovanni: a tradition that lights up the hamlets
As evening falls in the municipality of Cogne, the hamlets of Épinel and Gimillan light up with the traditional fires of Saint John a spontaneous and collective gesture that renews one of the oldest popular customs of this valley. Around the flames, people share food, wine and drinks, accompanied by the music of the accordionists of Cogne cogne, young and old.
Once upon a time, the villages challenged each other to see who could keep the fire burning the longest: a ritual that survives today thanks to the enthusiasm of those who believe in the value of memory and community. A simple, authentic evening with an ancient flavour.
