Description of the route
The Betenda ravine is situated in Valpelline. After leaving the car in the Vernosse parking area (go right at the junction after Voisinal, before reaching Oyace), continue on foot along the paved road up to the bridge, then take the path to the left and ascend the left watershed slope of Buthier. After some minutes follow the trail along the torrent. The two trails connect once more at the junction with the Varrere torrent, descending from Mont Gelé. At the Betenda bridge, a beautiful stone construction, the ravine appears in all its splendor. The sun reaches it during summer at around 3 in the afternoon, with a diagonal light. Ascending again you can take a detour towards the striking panoramic ‘Tornalla’ tower.
Betenda ravine was carved into the imposing rocky wall upstream from the bridge, on the right watershed of the torrent. The water flowing almost vertically has lowered the left slope by several dozen meters. The rock plateau with the tower found itself overlooking the bottom of the valley.
