Popular religious sentiment runs deep among the inhabitants of the municipality of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, as is evident in the processions, whose origins stretch back many centuries.
These traditions are closely linked to the world of the countryfolk of days gone by, and the numerous difficulties they were faced with, which resulted in many requests for God and the saints to intervene regarding the weather during the various seasons.
On 5 August there is a procession in honour of the Madonna of the Snows. The procession starts out towards 7:00 a.m. in front of the parish church of Saint-Rhémy and continues towards the chapel in Fonteinte, a few kilometres before the Great Saint Bernard Pass, where Holy Mass is celebrated at around 11:00 a.m.
Here, in the past, the tenant of the nearby mountain dairy traditionally offered the faithful a bowl of milk.
The present-day chapel was built in the 19th century, although its origins appear to date back to the 14th century.
